New Mobile Harbour Crane to Boost Timaru Container Terminal Operations
The Timaru Container Terminal celebrated a major milestone this past weekend with the successful discharge of a new Mobile Harbour Crane. The cutting-edge Liebherr crane, a key investment to enhance port operations, was safely unloaded onto the Terminal on the weekend of October 30th. The unloading operation was a remarkable demonstration of modern heavy-lift shipping technology. Using advanced equipment, the 450-tonne crane was hoisted in a single move, a feat completed in just over an hour. The precision and efficiency of the operation underline the port's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of logistical excellence. “This marks a significant step forward for Timaru Container Terminal,” said Troy Tane, Timaru Container Terminal Manager. “The addition of this advanced crane will greatly enhance our cargo-handling capabilities and improve service reliability for our customers.” In the coming three weeks, Liebherr representatives will be on-site to oversee the final commissioning of the crane and conduct comprehensive training for QM staff. This training ensures the team is fully equipped to maximize the crane's capabilities and adhere to the highest safety standards. The new MHC represents the Terminal’s ongoing investment in modern infrastructure to support the region's growing trade and logistics demands.
